1975: B.A.,  Brigham Young University

1975: Intern to the President of the Utah Senate

1977-1978: Law Clerk for the Kern County Counsel

1978: Research Assistant to Rex Lee, former Solicitor General of the United States

1978 J.D.: “cum laude”, Brigham Young University

1978-1981: Associate at Georgeson, Emerich and Belardinili in Fresno, California

1979: Argued  County of Fresno v. Superior Ct. 92 Cal.App.3d 138 (a pioneer case establishing DNA evidence)

1981-1982: Deputy County Counsel, Butte County California

1982-2005: Partner at Austin Thompson and Sims in Bakersfield, California

1984-1985: Trial attorney in People v. Pitts (one of the longest consecutive running trials ever heard in Kern County)

1989: Successful defense before the 5th District Court of Appeals in Brooks v. Eugene Burger Management Corp. 215 Cal.App3d 1611

2008-Present:  Panel member California Criminal Appellate Program
